Tour Diary: Day Three

Sometimes you should be more careful of what you say. Like our late night crack about “only downhill from here” etc after such a great and inspiring night in Wakefield.

We were able to relax a bit in Ottawa before moving on to our next stop in Kingston; a return visit to The Mansion.  Days off on tour feel like a waste sometimes, but having lots of the day to do stuff and still have a show at night is pretty much as good as it gets.  And this band loves Ottawa. So good combination, so far. Some naps, some coffee shops and the Market, getting some work done, and we are on our way to Kingston.

Last June we had a great night and half day off in Ottawa, only to have a bit of a downer night in Dan Akroyd’s old stomping grounds. We were hoping for an improvement. Without wanting to sound like whiny rockstars, we’ll just say the night was underwhelming, thx to some poor planning by the promoters. No reflection on the venue or the other bands (4 of them). But it was a Sunday night with 5 bands and we played last. You can figure that out. So lets just look at the positives – we met some cool people, got aquainted with some great artists (Evening Hymns, and The Details from Winnipeg), had some old friends show up, and we drove the 2 hrs back to Ottawa by 4:30 am. Ok that last part wasn’t a positive at all.

But if we were going to be whiny rockstars – we’d be sure to mention that the Subway was out of ham. Ham! How does that happen! To the guy who has only ordered a Ham/cheese sub his entire life!?! Yeah, its best to move on. They can’t all be glowing rainbows and fireworks. So we included a picture of lights on a bar top, since nothing else was worth capturing.
